An insight into Manchester United’s stance on potentially recalling on-loan defender Axel Tuanzebe from Aston Villa has been forthcoming on Thursday.

Latest Villans stint

Gifted young stopper Tuanzebe of course secured a return to Villa Park this past summer.

After impressing across a pair of previous spells with the Claret and Blue, the ex-English youth international was granted yet another loan switch to Aston early in August, after struggling for game-time with parent club United throughout 2020/21.

And to say that Tuanzebe has since enjoyed an upturn in fortunes since swapping Manchester for Birmingham would be something of an understatement.

The 23-year-old has already been afforded five starts across all competitions, one more than he managed across the entirety of last season.

In fact, until late last month, Tuanzebe’s fine form had seen him secure a trio of successive Premier League starts, a run which was only brought to an end due to his ineligibility to line out at Old Trafford.

‘Expected to stay’

In turn, murmurs had begun to spread across the media that Tuanzebe’s exploits at Villa Park could see him secure an early return to Manchester over the coming weeks.

This of course comes with the heart of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backline currently ravaged by injuries.

Captain Harry Maguire has been sidelined since September with a calf problem, with first-choice partner Raphael Varane having joined the English international on the treatment table at Old Trafford during the international break.

If the latest update on Thursday evening is anything to go by, however, then such woes will in fact not see Solskjaer and co. take into consideration an unplanned comeback for Tuanzebe.

As per a report from the Manchester Evening News:

Sources say Tuanzebe is ‘enjoying his football’ and he is still expected to stay at Villa Park for the rest of the season.
