Rui Patricio signs for Roma

Roma have confirmed the signing of Rui Patricio from Wolves.

The player will join for a fee in excess of €11 million which the club are expected to reinvest immediately in his replacement.

Wolves are expected to sign Olympiacos goalkeeper Jose Sa as the Portugal number one’s replacement for next season.

Mourinho factor in decision

Having now joined the club, Patricio has said that Jose Mourinho being there was a big part of his decision to join the Serie A side.

“I’m delighted to have the chance to work with Mourinho. This is the first time I’ve worked with him, but he’s certainly one of the best in the world. It’s a dream for any player to work with him and to be coached by him,” he said.

“That was definitely one of the other draws for me, as well as coming to a big club to win silverware and focus on competing for trophies. Working with Mourinho is definitely a huge plus in terms of developing, working hard and improving, so it’s exciting.”

Jose Mourinho said recently in his own first press conference that he would be looking to try and take the club to the next level. Stating that it was a long-term project which sold him on taking the position.

“Dan and Ryan Friedkin have a clear project, they want to build a future for Roma. The word ‘time’ sometimes doesn’t exist in football. This time, it exists and it’s crucial,” he said.

“Roma don’t want success today, but they want a sustainable project for the future, working with passion. That’s why I am here.

“Now it’s time to work with my staff, the city is great, but it’s not the reason why I am here because I am not on holiday.”

Roma will be the inaugural Italian participants of the UEFA Conference League. Competing alongside Mourinho’s old club Tottenham.
