Salah rewarded for scintillating September

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah continues to be the bane of the Premier League, and has been rewarded for his excellent vein of form by being voted as the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for September.

Salah has once again been the brightest attacking star under JĂĽrgen Klopp at Anfield in the opening weeks of the 2021-22 Premier League season, netting six goals in seven league appearances, and currently sitting on goals in five consecutive outings for the Reds.

Three of those five goals came in September against Leeds United, Crystal Palace, and Brentford, while his form also boiled over into Europe to the tune of three goals across Liverpool’s two Champions League wins against AC Milan and FC Porto.

Salah headed into the international break fresh off yet another instrumental performance as the Egyptian icon bagged a goal and added an assist in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Premier League holders Manchester City at Anfield.

He was also voted as Standard Charter’s Men’s Player of the Month for September, after fans voted on the club’s official website.

Ronaldo already trailing in Premier League goal race

While Mohamed Salah sits joint top of the Premier League goal charts, level with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy on 6-goals, Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo is already lagging behind.

The Portuguese great began his return to Old Trafford brightly after leaving Juventus this summer, bagging a brace in his second home debut for the club in a 6-1 thrashing of Newcastle United. He then followed up with his third goal of the season against West Ham in just his second appearance, but has now gone two matches without finding the back of the net domestically. The Portuguese has continued to score on the continent, however, with two goals in as many games in the Champions League group stages.

But with his return to England, many expected Ronaldo – and a brilliant supporting cast, at least on paper – to be right up in the thick of it for the Premier League Golden Boot. Salah may have won the early exchanges, but Ronaldo’s record speaks for itself.
