Liverpool take on AC Milan

Liverpool are currently contesting the opening game of their Champions League group with AC Milan. Although the reds took the lead, they were stunned by a quickfire double before half-time, before Mo Salah levelled matters just minutes into the second half.

Jordan Henderson then conjured images of Steven Gerrard with a volley from the edge of the box following a corner being cleared by Milan. Should Liverpool hold on, they will take an early advantage in a group that includes Milan, Porto and Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool injury woes mount as Origi limps off

Jurgen Klopp, however, was dealt another set back in the injury department as Divock Origi limped off the pitch on the hour mark. The Belgian was replaced by Sadio Mane, demonstrating just how little rotation Klopp can afford to make to his first choice frontline.

Origi joins Roberto Firmino on the injury table, while Takumi Minamino was also only fit enough for a place on the bench. With Xherdan Shaqiri having been sold to Lyon in the summer, and a horror injury to Harvey Elliot which will see him miss much of the season, options are increasingly scarce on Merseyside when it comes to resting either Mohammed Salah or Sadio Mane.

To make matters worse, the pair will be away from Liverpool for around a month as a result of national commitments in the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins in January. As a result, one of Minamino or Origi will have to start even if every one else is fully fit for the duration of their absence.

Will the Reds still be able to muster a title charge, or will they be forced to dip back into the transfer market?
