Struijk injuries Elliott
Liverpool faced off with Leeds United in a Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.
Harvey Elliott would be handed his 3rd successive league start for the Reds after an impressive start to the season.
Unfortunately for the midfielder, he would pick up a nasty-looking injury at the hands of Leeds’ Pascal Struijk.
The Leeds man has since apologised, but unfortunately for Elliott, the damage has already been done:
Pascal Struijk on Instagram: “In today’s game, something happened that I would never wish on anyone. @HarveyElliott07, my thoughts are with you. I’m gutted and never meant for this to happen. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on the pitch soon.”

In Struijk’s defence, the tackle itself did not appear to be of a malicious nature, something echoed by Marcelo Bielsa following the game.
The Argentine was also quizzed on the possibility of appealing the red card, but gave little away at the time:
On the possibility of an appeal, Bielsa said: “For me the referee decides. He has enough resources to make the decision. I don’t know why the decision wasn’t immediate but I never like to (question) the decisions the referee makes.” #lufc

Leeds down to bare bones at centre-back
Now though, it has been confirmed that Leeds did indeed appeal the red,
However, as reported by The Athletic, Struijk will serve a three-match ban after losing his appeal against the red card, which was dismissed by the FA’s disciplinary department on Tuesday evening.
It is added that this leaves The Whites with just one senior central defender, Liam Copper, having already lost Robin Koch and Diego Llorente.
Breaking – the Football Association has rejected Pascal Struijk’s appeal. Red card and three-match ban stands.
