Sancho’s whirlwind weeks

Jadon Sancho has had a whirlwind few weeks. The English attacker was confirmed to be joining Manchester United during the three lions Euro 2020 campaign, for a fee of around 73 million pounds.

The youngster went from euphoria to heartbreak across the tournament, however, missing a penalty in the Euro 2020 final shoot-out against Italy. Brought on deep into extra time, it was effectively his first touch of the game in what was a frustrating tournament for him, featuring in just one game from the off.

Sickening racist abuse

In the aftermath of the Wembley heartache, Sancho, along with Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka (who also missed their spot-kicks), were subject to sickening racist abuse on social media, with Rashford’s mural in his hometown also defaced.

Rashford posted a heartfelt message on social media, stating that “I’m Marcus Rashford, 23 year old, from Withinton and Wythenshawe, South Manchester. If I have nothing else I have that”

24 hours later, Sancho has followed suit, taking to twitter and instagram to say:

“This is by far the worst feeling I’ve felt in my career”.

“These are the pressured situations you want to be under as a footballer. I’ve scored penalties before at club level, i’ve practiced them countless times for both club and country so I picked my corner but it just wasn’t meant to be this time.”

Meanwhile, he touched on the abuse he, Rashford and Saka received, writing:

“I’m not going to pretend that I didn’t see the racial abuse that me and my brothers Marcus and Bukayo received after the game, but sadly it’s nothing new. As a society we need to do better, and hold these people accountable. Hate will never win.”

Sancho will join up with his new teammates for the first time after his holiday. and will be hoping to put the penalty behind him with a series of strong performances for the Red Devils.
