The 100 million pound man delivers on the biggest stage

In a frankly bonkers game, Manchester City ended up on the right side of a 6-3 scoreline against German side RB Leipzig in their Champions League group stage opener. A hat-trick from Christopher Nkunku could not help his side, who fell to a heavy defeat at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s side courtesy of six different scorers.

One man who made an instant impact was new boy Jack Grealish. The latest Citizen was signed from Aston Villa in a 100 million pound deal over the summer, and started life brightly in Manchester. The 26 year old has already recorded a goal and an assist in 4 Premier League appearances, and added a goal and assist on his Champions League debut too.

After providing a cross from which Nathan Ake nodded in the opening goal of the affair, Grealish took matters into his own hands in the second half. Cutting inside from the left hand side, the winger beat one defender before curling a right-footed strike into the far corner of the Leipzig goal.

Grealish breaks 17 year old record

Unbeknown to Grealish, his performance against the German outfit set a new Champions League record. In both scoring a goal and providing an assist, he became the first Englishman to acheive this on his debut since 2004, when Wayne Rooney repeated the feat for Manchester United against Fenerbahce.

With the addition of Grealish, can City go one better than final heartbreak this season?
