Ings’ Southampton stint

Danny Ings joined Southampton on a permanent basis in the summer of 2019.

The Saints are understood to have paid Liverpool just shy of £20m for the hitman.

And this fee has since proven to be a real bargain, with Ings having cemented himself as one of the Premier League’s top forwards.

2019/20 saw Ings rack up a hefty 22 goals in 38 league outings.

And though the 28-year-old was hampered by fitness issues this past campaign, he nevertheless continued to impress when available.

In 29 league ties last term, he scored 12 and provided four assists for the Saints.

Southampton do not want to sell to Spurs

Ings would be linked with a move to Tottenham back in the January window but no move was forthcoming.

However, Ing’s future at St Mary’s has now once again been called into question this summer.

This comes with the forward only having one year left on his current deal and reports claiming that he has turned down a new deal with Southampton.

Now, Tottenham’s links to Ings have returned this month. The Evening Standard are reporting on Wednesday that Ings is Tottenham’s top transfer target this summer, with Nuno Espirito Santo keen to partner the forward with Harry Kane.

However, it is added that Southampton are reluctant to do business with Spurs.

The report goes on to explain that sources at Southampton claim relations with the Lilywhites have soured due to a bad experience when negotiating Pierre-Emilie Hojbjerg’s transfer last summer.
