Crystal Palace transfer news

In this article we will cover all of today’s Crystal Palace transfer news.

Viera using Arsenal & Man City connections

Firstly, new Crystal Palace boss Patrick Viera looks to be making good use of his contacts in the game to help strengthen his current side.

Eurosport report that Vieira is tapping into contacts at former clubs Arsenal and Manchester City as he begins to rebuild at Palace:

Vieira is now in touch with Arsenal and City about potential signings.

Viera would, of course, play for both of the aforementioned sides, whilst also holding coaching roles at City and then managing New York City FC, who are part of the City Football Group.

And Eurosport claim that one of the players Viera is looking at is Man City youngster, Claudio Gomes.

Gomes was signed from PSG back in 2018 and has since spent time on loan at PSV and in City’s youth teams. He is a defensive midfielder by trade but can also operate at full-back.

West Brom’s Kyle Bartley stance

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace have been credited with an interest in West Brom centre-back, Kyle Bartley.

The Baggies were relegated from the Premier League last season, which often then leads to clubs selling a number of their top players.

And Palace were seemingly looking to take advantage of this as they were named as one of several clubs who were interested in Bartley.

However, it is being claimed by the Birmingham Mail that:

Bartley is attracting interest from all manner of Premier League sides, including Burnley, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, but it’s understood that the club are intent on retaining the player who finished the season as their captain.

The winger would feature in 34 of Palace’s league games in 2020/21, but is now without a club after his contract with the Eagles expired.

The Evening Standard report that Townsend was expected to stay on, however, he is unlikely to sign a new deal with Palace and is hopeful of finding a new club soon.

In a recent Q&A, Townsend detailed what he wants from a new club.

“A lot of things really. At this stage of my career it has to be the right move. There has to be a clear path to game time, I have to suit the style of play and the manager has to want me.

“My family have to be happy in their new surroundings so yeah a lot of thinking goes into this move which is why I am still without a club at the beginning of July.

“Hopefully I can sort it out soon.”
