Heading into the game, Arsenal had suffered 3 consecutive defeats, conceding 9 in the process, including a heavy 5-0 defeat to Champions Manchester City.
This, in turn, led to many of the Gunners faithful calling for a change of management, with Antonio Conte the firm favourite among Gooners to replace Mikel Arteta.

However, rumours of any pre-agreement were wide of the mark, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano:
Despite reports that Arsenal have been in talks with Antonio Conte, there is no form of agreement in place for him to replace Mikel Arteta as manager.

One club Conte would join revealed
Earlier today, the reliable Italian football journalist Gianluca di Marzio spoke to Sky Sports about the Italian boss’s future, and whether he could take over at Arsenal. However, he dealt Gunners fans hopeful of Conte in north London a huge blow, revealing that:
“He would only accept a winning project. So I don’t think he would accept Arsenal and that is why he said no to Tottenham. I think he would only accept if say Manchester United called.”

With Conte out of any potential managerial replacement race, how much better than Mikel Arteta can Arsenal realistically do?
