James Maddison interesting Arsenal
Arsenal are on the lookout this summer for an attacking midfielder to replace the position which they lost by Martin Odegaard returning to Real Madrid from his loan spell.
Arsenal had looked to bring in the Norwegian on a permanent deal but were unable to convince Real Madrid to sell him. They also bid for Emi Buendia but were unsuccessful with Aston Villa’s pursuit much more attractive to the Argentine.
Arsenal matched the salary being offered to Buendia, but Villa’s package to Norwich was more enticing.

With these two targets out of the picture for now, Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have moved onto other options. One of the possible alternatives has been touted to be Leicester City’s James Maddison.
Seen some rumours about James Maddison to Arsenal tonight.
I’m told that Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of Maddison and he’s certainly a target – but the fee will be an issue.

The England international has been a key figure in Leicester City’s push for a Champions League spot over the last two seasons. It would be a surprise to see Maddison swap the Europa League competing side for an Arsenal team out of Europe entirely this year.
Arsenal’s Maddison boost
However, the possibility of Leicester City allowing Maddison to leave may have improved for Arsenal slightly.
It was revealed today that Leicester City are looking to renew the contract of Youri Tielemans. This comes after Liverpool’s supposed interest in the player has cooled and is no longer a factor according to the Telegraph’s John Percy.
#lcfc will continue contract talks with Youri Tielemans on his return from holiday, after Belgium’s Euro 2020 campaign. Tielemans is not a target for #lfc this summer: will be a huge fee and Liverpool likely to recruit players outside the Premier League https://t.co/2NskmRHHTa

The Athletic’s Leicester correspondent Rob Tanner told The Gooner Talk that should Youri Tielemans leave, then Maddison wouldn’t be sold.
“Historically they only ever sell one. Every summer since they won the title in 2016 they’ve sold one player. It’s been Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Maguire, Chilwell,” said Tanner.
“It’ll only be one, so if Tielemans goes, Maddison won’t go.”
However, with the news that Tielemans could be staying, this has led to the possibility of Maddison to Arsenal more of a possibility.
