The Magpies are expected to spend heavily over the next few transfer windows after the club’s Saudi-led takeover was finally completed last week. The Public Investment Fund now owns an 80% stake in Newcastle after purchasing the club from its previous owner, Mike Ashley.
A number of high-profile stars have already been linked with a switch to St James’ Park, with the club looking to join the so-called big six in the battle for trophies and Champions League football.
The likes of Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek have all recently been mentioned as targets.
The North-East club are also chasing new centre-back options. Barcelona star Clement Lenglet is another player said to be on their radar, but Bastoni has also emerged as an option.
The agent of the Italy international appears to have put his client forward for a move. That is despite the fact that he only signed a new contract back in May.
Tullio Tinti, who represents the defender, told Tuttomercatoweb: “He signed a contract a short time ago. I haven’t heard from Newcastle yet.
“I hope they will call me, but he is very happy at the Nerazzurri for now.”
Door opens for Newcastle to land Juve star
Meanwhile, Newcastle may have had the door to their first marquee signing opened with a report suggesting Juventus are looking to offload one of their targets.
The Magpies’ well-documented Saudi takeover has prompted significant discussion about who they could sign in the upcoming transfer windows. Many of the names that have been thrown about seem somewhat unrealistic. But this player is definitely a possibility.
That’s because his Italian owners are willing to sell him. He would also not be considered as a reckless use of the new cash injection.
Juve are looking to offload Rabiot as they need to sell before they can buy. And they have their eyes on two targets, as per the report.
Now Juve have entered the fray. Selling Rabiot would help fund their approach. It would also shift €7m of wages a year off their books.
The France international has less than two years left on his contract in Turin. Therefore, a deal would be relatively cheap.
